A brief company history
Company founder Alan Phillips identifies the demand for high quality information security services whilst working in the IT Security department at the London Stock Exchange. After five years there, he leaves and begins trading as ‘7Safe’.
Having completed IT security consulting assignments in Europe and the UK, Phillips invites former LSE colleague Dan Haagman to join 7Safe in a new company formation. Working initially from a small residential office, the pair develop & deliver practical information security training courses & certifications, amid consulting assignments. The training proves popular and in turn boosts 7Safe’s consulting opportunities.
The company moves to business offices, and diversifies into computer forensic investigation services.
Phillips and Haagman author further training courses in this area, and continue to build the consulting business.
7Safe’s reputation in the investigation of malicious software and computer memory analysis grows.
7Safe’s client base expands rapidly, with well-known brands now employing the company’s services.
The company’s services become certified to Information Security Standard BS 7799 (later to become ISO 27001).
The business moves to larger office premises.
The company wins a prestigious penetration testing contract with the Ministry of Defence and computer forensics outsourcing contracts with numerous law enforcement agencies.
7Safe’s education range becomes accredited to Masters Level by the University of Glamorgan in the creation of the ground-breaking Postgraduate Certificate in Penetration Testing and Information Security.
The demand for computer forensics services increases, with 7Safe is working behind the scenes of numerous high profile investigations, some that become major news headlines.
New training facilities in Cambridge are opened to facilitate the growing demand for 7Safe’s education programmes.
The company’s services become certified to Quality Standard ISO 9001.
7Safe’s education programme is licensed to an international training partner in Ireland.
After further growth, the company moves again to larger premises.
7Safe becomes a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Qualified Security Assessor Company and quickly grows this area of business.
The company is privileged to publish and co-author the Good Practice Guide for Computer Based Electronic Evidence in partnership with the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Metropolitan Police Service. The Guide is the definitive publication for conducting computer forensic investigations in the UK.
Litigation support and eDiscovery services become a natural extension to the established computer forensics division. 7Safe’s City of London office is opened.
A Master of Science in Computer Security and Forensics is created in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire.
7Safe wins the Barclays Bank sponsored Small Business of the Year Award.
The company’s Board is strengthened with the appointment of successful businessmen, Ken Ford (Non-Executive Chairman) and Daniel Hart (Non-Executive Director).
7Safe wins significant contracts with the UK’s largest banks for numerous services, including PCI DSS.
Work begins on the company’s first commercial software project, led by 7Safe’s famed early Nessus contributing author Jordan Hrycaj.
7Safe provides interviews to several media organizations including Sky News, BBC News 24, ITN News, Radio 4 and The Financial Times.
The City of London office is expanded.
Despite a general economic downturn, the increase in fraud creates strong demand for many of 7Safe’s investigation services, notably litigation support.
